Electromechanical Actuators (EMA) in "All-Electric" Aviation

Electromechanical Actuators (EMA) are replacing traditional hydraulic systems in 2026’s aircraft and industrial machines. By converting electrical energy directly into linear or rotary motion, EMAs eliminate the need for heavy fluid lines and pumps.

  • Smart Feedback: Modern EMAs feature integrated sensors that report their own "Health and Usage" (HUMS), predicting mechanical wear before a failure occurs.

  • Weight Reduction: In 2026 "More Electric Aircraft" (MEA), replacing hydraulics with EMAs reduces the total airframe weight by up to 10%, directly increasing fuel efficiency.

  • Precision Control: EMAs allow for "Drive-by-Wire" precision, essential for the flight control surfaces of the new eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) air taxis.
